The Scottish Brewery, Tempest Brewing Company was founded in 2010 by Gavin and Annika Meiklejohn.
The couple met in Canada in the 90s, where Gavin worked as a Chef in a Brewpub with Annika. It was there that Gavin discovered a new version of beer that he had not yet discovered in Scotland, his native country.
They then settled down in New Zeland where they learnt to brew in their own garage. That is how they came up with their first beer, the Long White Flag.
They returned to Scotland and opened a « Gastropub » named « The Cobbles », with a good reputation in the Scottish Borders region. After three years in the kitchen thinking of new beer recipes, Gavin decided to create the microbrewery, Tempest Brewing Company in the end of 2010.
In 2015, confronted by the increasing demand of excellent beers from the brewery, the brewery was relocated to Tweedbank that currently allows it to produce 32hL, with an objective of doubling this capacity in the near future.
The word that best defines Tempest is quality: the quality of the products selected with care and the finish quality of the beers. Among these, we can name, for example: the Brave New World (a resinous India Pale Ale), the Double Shuck (an oyster Imperial Stout) or In The Dark We Live(a very hopped IPA).
