Brasserie De Halve MaanAllow Straffe Hendrick Quadrupel to take you to the complex, malty world of Quadrupel beers. Full-bodied and reassuring, Quadrupels require a long maturing in order to complete the fermentation cycle and develop the full range of characteristics, something at which De Halve Maan brewery is particularly proficient. Pouring mahogany with red highlights typical to the style, this beer is capped by a white head, remarkable both in quality and quantity. From underneath this remarkable head escapes a complex bouquet, bursting with scents such as melon and berries, and smoky, toasty coffee and malt notes. It also gives an indication to the liqueur-like quality thanks to the conspicuous alcohol note. On the tongue, there is a an even greater complexity with more red fruit and grape flavours, quickly eclipsed by light toasted notes and hints of jammy stewed fruits. While the alcohol definitely makes its presence known, it remains balanced, adding further to this beer’s excellent balance.   Straffe Hendrick Quadrupel by De Halve Maan is a truly excellent example of its type, confirming the brewery’s well-deserved reputation.Product #: 18054stars, based on 18 reviewsRegular price: 3.23.2Available from: Saveur BièreCondition: New productsin stock

Brasserie De Halve MaanBrugse Zot is a top-fermented artisanal Belgian Pale Ale, brewed in the centre of Bruges by the historic De Halve Maan brewery. The taste is also lightly malted before a surprising, lightly bitter finish creeps up on you, to make this a highly agreeable, well-rounded beer. Brasserie De Halve Maan Straffe Hendrik Quadruple transports you into the rich, complex elite of Quadruple Beers, intense and flavoursome! After being brewed, Quadruples beers must be kept for a long time in order to refine the fermentation cycle and develop their full range of organoleptic properties. Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is dark brown mahogany in colour with the reddish highlights typical of Quadruple style beers, and is topped by a delicate, astonishingly white head. This amazing head treats the nose to complex and very fruity aromas of melon and red fruits accompanied by the roasted notes of coffee and malt. It's a powerful combination but it doesn't completely mask the hints of liquorice that remind us of the alcohol content of this beer, which does after all have an ABV of 11%. In the mouth, Straffe Hendrik Quadruple reveals itself to be a highly complex beer! Beautiful flavours of red fruits and grapes become immediately apparent, closely followed by the slightly roasted flavours and the liquorice hints of fermented fruits. Whilst the alcohol is certainly noticeable, it never dominates the palate and, overall, gives balance to the beer. Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a true masterpiece from the excellent De Haalve Man brewery, and a beer that confirms their craftsmanship and their well-merited reputation! Brasserie De Halve MaanA "Wild" reinvention of the classic Straffe Hendrik Tripel from Belgium's De Halve Maan brewery, this beer is bottled just once a year. The strains of wild Brettanomyces yeast used during the refermentation give this beer a much longer natural shelf-life as well as a taste that goes on improving over time. Also, the hoppy bitterness will mellow over time as the yeasts continue to give fruity, floral touches. If you are a fan of Straffe Hendrik Tripel, or you're keen to try a truly remarkable beer with an agreeable bitterness and spicy notes of clove, coriander and pepper, then try this premium Belgian Tripel.Product #: 69253stars, based on 2 reviewsRegular price: 2.82.8Available from: Saveur BièreCondition: New productsin stock

Brasserie De Halve Maan Brugse Zot Dubbelis a brown version of the beer brewed in the historical heart of Bruges, dubbed Brugse Zot. Its name means "the Fool of Bruges" in Flemish, and is the name given the city’s residents, derived from the old traditions and local legends. With its new lease of life, the young Straffe Hendrik brewery, producer of the Brugse Zot beers has been working ever since it opened in 2005 to promote brewing heritage and traditions in the city of Bruges. These days it is the last operating brewery in the historical centre of Bruges, a city which in the past was home to a great many breweries. Brugse Zot Dubbel is brewed with six special kinds of malt, giving it this brown colour with reddish highlights which distinguishes it from its blonde sister. On the nose, this brown beer delivers aromas of caramel, toasted malt with delicious hints of ripe fruits and fragrances that are suggestive of spices. The palate has malty flavours, still with hints of caramel and toasted grains together with delicious notes of ripe fruits and a spicy touch of cinnamon. A delicious light but sharp bitterness then emerges, the result of the famous Czech Saaz hops used to produce this Brugse Zot Dubbel. This uncomplicated beer, stronger than the blonde version, came of age in 2011 when it was awarded the silver medal in one of the most prestigious and world-acclaimed brewing competitions: the Brewing Industry International Awards. For the best tasting experience, we recommend you serve it in its proprietary Brugse Zot glass   . Brasserie De Halve MaanStraffe Hendrik Heritage is a Special Edition autumn beer brewed by the De Haalve Maan brewery. It is a special version of the classic Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel, which is matured for at least one year in Bordeaux wine casks. The technique allows the the aroma and taste to develop, and allows this already superb beer to improve further in the bottle. Pouring deep mahogany with red highlights under a generous tan-coloured head, the sumptuous bouquet releases waves of black cherry, plum, raisins, and bread, with a conspicuous alcohol note. On the tongue this profile is faithfully reproduced, with more chewy, jammy flavours, offset by a sharpness, and oaky notes. The finish is well-balanced, with a light bitterness and subtle oaky wine touches. Straffe Hendrik Heritage is best tasted at 8°. It can be kept for several years, to give it more of a Port Wine character.Product #: 8584stars, based on reviewsRegular price: 16.216.2Available from: Saveur BièreCondition: New productsin stock

The De Halve Maan Brewery is the only family-run brewery still operating in heart of the historic Belgian city Bruges.

The latest in a long and distinguished line of brewers, Xavier Vanneste has worked tirelessly to update the brewery and develop new products. In 2005, with the newly reopened brewery, Xavier ran public test brews under the Dilemma. Visitors were keen to taste the fruits of his research and their comments helped to shape the recipe for a new beer, Brugse Zot or the Bruges Fool

In late 2008 the brewery bought the Straffe Hendrik brand, a beer created by Xavier’s grandfather, Henri Maes IV and his daughter Véronique. Production has now begun producing the beer again according to the original recipe.
