The Abbaye de Rochefort is located in the small town
of Rochefort, in the province of Namur, Belgium. Its monks
have been brewing beer since 1595 although historically
their priority was not brewing but farming. Today, production is around 300
hectoliters per week.
The Abbey brews three main beers, Rochefort 6, Rochefort 8 and
Rochefort 10. The figures refer to an ancient method of determining
the strength of beer, equivalent to one tenth of the
gravity of the mash prior to fermentation.
