Brasserie Het AnkerGouden Carolus Cuvée Van de Keizer Blauw by the Het Anker Brewery is a top-fermented beer, brewed once a year on the 24th February to celebrate the birthday of Emperor Charles V. This exceptional beer can easily be laid down to age in a cool, dark, dry place for up to ten years, just like a fine wine. Pouring deep chestnut brown with a fine tan head, this Belgian beer breathes rich candied fruit, malt, yeast, caramel, chocolate and alcohol notes. On the tongue, you’ll find a host of flavours, including chocolate, caramel, grape, dried fruit, spices, and liqueur, in a complex ensemble that demonstrates its class through a perfect balance. The satin texture and light carbonation give a malty, alcohol finish, while the density serves to link the warming character of wine with the freshness of beer to make this a rare beer of exception.Product #: 20244stars, based on 11 reviewsRegular price: 7.57.5Available from: Saveur BièreCondition: New productsin stock

Brasserie Het AnkerGouden Carolus Tripel was first brewed in 1491 for the Knights of the Golden Fleece, the same recipe that Het Anker Brewery uses today. A light blonde thanks to the exclusive use of pale malt, the bouquet is fruity and spicy with yeast notes and an attractive hops profile. The taste is powerful as one might expect for a characterful tripel. There are inviting apricot and orange notes leading to a dry, refreshing finish. Thanks to bottle conditioning, this beer will improve over time.Product #: 1064stars, based on 14 reviewsRegular price: 2.692.69Available from: Saveur BièreCondition: New productsin stock

Brasserie Het AnkerDiscover the range of excellent Gouden Carolus beers offered by the famous Belgian brewery Het Hanker. This Flemish brewery is one of the oldest ones from belgium since it was founded in 1369! The Gouden Carolus Classic is a top-fermented dark beer that has been re-fermented in bottle so that it can mature its taste qualities. It pours a nice mahogany to ruby colour topped by an impressive but short-lasting head. The beer challenges the nose with malty aromas and very fruity scents reminiscent of caramel, plums and grapes. One can also perceive a hint of anise. On the palate, the taster will notice malted and fruity aromas with a slightly syrupy texture. Roasted notes marry fruity flavours of black fruit and dry fruit for a perfectly balanced whole. Then, one can also find notes of plums, prunes, grapes and raisons. When you add the alcohol, you could feel like you were tasting a fruit liquor. Although they are there, the hops are not obvious, while the aftertaste grows intense over the minuts that follow the tasting, thanks to the refermentation in bottle used for this exceptional beer. One can find interesting to have the beer mature a few years in his cellar before opening it. You can serve this beer is its Carolus Beer Glass specially designed for this purpose.  Product #: 1054stars, based on 14 reviewsRegular price: 2.752.75Available from: Saveur BièreCondition: New productsin stock

Brasserie Het Anker They say that Gouden Carolus Tripel was brewed for the first time for the Chapter of the Knights of the Golden Fleece in 1491. The Het Hanker Brewery uses the same recipe for today’s Tripel. It’s therefore not surprising to find it has such a traditional character. The colour of this beer, a light blond, is achieved by means of the malted base, which is obtained only from pale malt. On the nose, we find both the fruity, spicy profile of yeasts and also wonderful hoppy notes leading to citrus notes. The attack in the mouth is powerful and proves that what we’re dealing with is a tripel of character. Wonderful hints of candied apricots and orange then emerge, while the tasting concludes with a dry, refreshing finish in the mouth. This powerful beer is re-fermented in the bottle and improves with time if left to age in the cellar. If you liked this beer, don’t wait another second: Red Carolus Van de Keizer is right up your street! Brasserie Het AnkerGouden Carolus Classic, AKA the Emperor, AKA the Imperial Beer, is a rich, fruity Belgian Dark Ale by the Het Anchor brewery. First brewed in 1939, this particular brew was recognised as the World’s Best Dark Beer in 2012. Top-fermented, and finely-balanced, its chestnut body flashed ruby in the light, and releases fruity, banana, strawberry, and chocolate scents from under its thick tan head. The astonishing complexity of the bouquet is reproduced on the palate, with more malty, fruity notes, offset by a delicious caramel character. The powerful full body and slick texture conspire with the moderate carbonation to give a fruity, caramel finish.Product #: 37865stars, based on 4 reviewsRegular price: 5.55.5Available from: Saveur BièreCondition: New productsin stock

Brasserie Het AnkerThe Gouden Carolus Christmas is a worldwide popular beer. Poured in its Gouden Beer glass, it features a beautiful golden colour that slowly turns into a very dark red colour. In the nose, it is full-flavoured, sugary and spicy.. very spicy!  It is hard to list the 6 spices added throughout the brewing process. The lower part of this beer is made up of powerful malts reminiscent of barley, molasses and grapes. Above, one can notice notes of fruits, dates and plums. Finally, on the upper part, the six different spices take you to another world. Let’s give it a shot and try to guess, I would say there are nutmeg, anise, clove, ginger and a little bit of orange zests. It is simply its flavors that put us directly into Christmas spirit. Nothing but closing your eyes is necessary to smell this aromatized bouquet and you already feel as if you were in December. In the mouth, each sip reveals a new flavor during the whole tasting. It leaves a pleasant aftertaste despite its relatively thickness. The specific mixture of these exceptional spices added at different moment during the brewing process and the use of 3 strains of hops make this beer a high-class product. In 2004, it was rewarded with the “Silver Award” in the category of Belgian Style Dark Strong Ale at the World Beer Cup in San Diego, USA. 38 years after its interruption, the old tradition which consists in brewing the beer Gouden Carolus Christmas resumed in 2002. Since it was put back in the marked on that form, it enjoyed an amazing recognition. The beer is brewed at the end of August. Then, the beer is set in a horizontal position to enhance to the full an optimal balance of tastes.  Product #: 2754stars, based on 4 reviewsRegular price: 2.52.5Available from: Saveur BièreCondition: New productsin stock

Brasserie Het Anker Cuvée van de Keizer is brewed every year starting on 24th of February, Charles Quint's birthday, by the Hetanker brewery in Belgium. It is produced in limited quantities. Cuvée Van de Keizer Rouge, the red version, is a blonde beer, as opposed to the “blue” version which is a brown beer. This exceptional Belgian beer shows an attractive, slightly cloudy blonde colour, with an inviting, compact and unctuous white head. On the nose, we find aromas of cereals and hops, with hints of spices. On the palate, each sip brings new discoveries, such as hints of white fruits, hops, spices and also aromatic herbs. The finish has a slight bitterness, giving balance to this beer of many flavours. The red version of the Cuvée van de Keizer is a premium Belgian beer, that can be laid down for a year in order to be enjoyed at its very best. Brasserie Het AnkerBrewed in Belgium by the Het Anker brewery according to a recipe dating from the 15th century, Gouden Carolus Ambrio is the only beer of its type still in production. Stronger and more richly hopped than its ancestors, this beer is bottle conditioned, and flavoured only with Belgian hops. Pouring copper blonde with a dense creamy white head, Ambrio is both rounded and characterful, breathing complex malt and ripe fruit scents, with caramel and coffee to spare, as well as hints of spice and leafiness in the background. On the tongue, there are more malty flavours in a complex mix of flavours that evokes stone fruit, toasted malts, and caramel, alongside spicy yeast notes, and a noticeable sweetness. This beer can be kept up to three years from the date of bottling, to make an interesting comparison between older and younger bottles when tasted side-by-side.Product #: 1955stars, based on 5 reviewsRegular price: 2.52.5Available from: Saveur BièreCondition: New productsin stock

Brasserie Het AnkerFirst brewed in 1980, Lucifer was first brewed during a revival in strong blonde beers. In 2009, ownership of the recipe and the name passed to Het Anker where it is still brewed with the same attention to detail. In the glass, Lucifer shows off a handsome gold body with an generous creamy white head, breathing fruity hops and malty, yeasty scents. The palate is awash with soft, bitter flavours, as well as spice, yeast, coriander, caramel, malt, and alcohol which combine to give a dry finish.Product #: 1495stars, based on 2 reviewsRegular price: 2.62.6Available from: Saveur BièreCondition: New productsin stock

Brasserie Het AnkerIn 2002, the old tradition of brewing Gouden Carolus Christmas was finally revived, to an uproarious fanfare! Brewed in late August, the beer is put down for several months to reach an optimal balance of flavours. In the glass, Gouden Carolus pours a magnificent, dark ruby with a sweet, intensely spicy nose filled with nutmeg, aniseed, coriander, cloves, ginger and a little orange zest. The emboidment of Christmas,  Gouden Carolus Christmas reveals a different flavour with every mouthful, including massive malts reminiscent molasses, and fruity figs, dates and plums. This Christmas beer is substantial, and leaves a delicious aftertaste courtesy of three kinds of hops added at different stages of the brewing process, which together put this beer in a class of its own, so it's not surprising that it won the Silver Award in 2004 in the Belgian Style Dark Strong Ale category at the World Beer Cup in San Diego, USA.Product #: 9844stars, based on 3 reviewsRegular price: 5.55.5Available from: Saveur BièreCondition: New productsin stock

Several different sources confirm the creation of the Het Anker Brewery some time in the 15th century.

In 1873, the Van Breedam family bought the brewery, which at  the time was one of the most modern to be found anywhere. In the 1950s, following the closure of many small and medium-sized breweries, Het Anker turned its attention to special beers.

The brewery was taken over in 1990 by Charles Leclef who became the 5th generation of the family to take the reins.
