Established in 1040AD by royal decree in the Bavarian city of Weihenstephan, the Weihenstephaner Abbey brewery is arguably the world's oldest operational brewery. 1000 years later, the brewery is run by the Bavarian government – the kind of state-intervention we can get behind!
With a body the colour of dark chocolate beneath a thick lacy tan head, Weihenstephaner Korbinian is awash with substantial stone fruit and honey scents, backed by warming coffee and cocoa.
This profile is echoed on the soft, lightly carbonated palate, with by treacly pumpernickel, and fruity raisin, apple, and plum, before closing on a buttery, lingering dark fruit presence.
