As the name suggests, Boon Oude Gueuze is a Gueuze beer produced in Belgium by F. Boon. The Boon brewery specialises in Lambic beers and has mastered the art of brewing with wild yeast.
This spontaneous fermentation beer consists of 90% 18-month old lambic, 5% young lambic, and 5% three-year old beer to make a single rich, complex gueuze.
In the glass, this beer pours hazy orange crowned by a lasting white head. The nose is dominated by sour notes with attractive fruit, lemon, and grapefruit, set against a woody backdrop.
The palate is soft, tart grapefruit, lemon, and ginger flavours, with a hint of nutmeg, leading to a woody dryness in the finish accompanied by a slight sweetness. A fine example of a gueuze beer, it is the perfect introduction to this style.
